is the national sport of South Korea and is a Korean martial art.
Taekwondo, in terms of the number in the population whom practice, is
the most popular form of martial art in the world. Taekwondo sparring
has been in the Olympics since the year 2000. In Korean, tae means to "strike or break with foot", kwon means "to strike or break with fist", and do
means "way or art or method". So Taekwondo is translated to "The way of
the foot and fist." There are two types of Taekwondo that everyone
practices. One is Sport Taekwondo which puts more emphasis on speed and
competition, while the other, Traditional Taekwondo, emphasizes power
and self-defense.
